Elizabeth Bowen
British writer Elizabeth Bowen dealt with the tension between a person's will and an alien world. She is considered a major British novelist of the 20th century.
Elizabeth Bowen was born in Dublin on june 7, 1899 and grew up in Ireland until her family moved to England when she was 7. Later on, she traveled back to Ireland for work after completing her education and stayed there for the remainder of WW1. Two years after the end of WWI, she moved back to England and enrolled in the London County Council School of Art in 1923. In 1924 she published her first collection of short stories. In 1938, Bowen published her most famous story, "The Death of the Heart". It follows a girl who expects honesty and openness from her family and is met with hostility.
