Newport, Rhode Island

Nestled in the heart of New England, Newport is a picturesque seaside city with a rich history and culture. Founded in 1639, Newport was one of the first settlements in the New World. Since then, it has been a leading maritime center, home to a thriving fishing and whaling industry. In the 18th century, Newport became known as “The City of Rogers” after Captain Samuel Rogers, its most famous resident. Rogers was a successful privateer who made a fortune plundering French ships during the Seven Years’ War. Today, Newport is best known for its beautiful beaches and historic mansions. The city’s three main beaches are Easton’s Beach, First Beach, and Second Beach. Its most famous mansions include The Breakers, Marble House, and Rosecliff. Newport is also home to several renowned museums, including the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum, the Naval War College Museum, and the Preservation Society of Newport County mansion museum.
