John Ernst Steinbeck, Jr. was an American writer. He is widely known for the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden, both of which examined the lives of ordinary people during the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. During the peak years of the Second World War, Steinbeck served as a war correspondent and novelist in Europe. late in life, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
